The Future of the Bluvy Ecosystem
Bluvy started with a simple idea: to build modern digital services that put privacy, security, and user control at the center.
Today, this vision is mainly taking shape through Bluvy Messenger, our messaging application built around the AT Protocol and the MLS (Messaging Layer Security) standard for end-to-end encryption.
But we want to go further.
We are gradually preparing the Bluvy ecosystem, with several projects serving different purposes, but built around the same goal: using open technologies to create simple, useful, and user-respecting experiences.
Bluvy Messenger, the Beginning
Bluvy Messenger is the first application in this ecosystem.
It currently allows users to exchange messages in one-to-one conversations with end-to-end encryption based on MLS. User identities rely on the AT Protocol, allowing Bluvy to be part of a more open environment than that of a traditional messaging platform.
The application will continue to evolve.
Image and video sharing, as well as audio calls, are among the features planned for the next stages.
The goal is to keep evolving Bluvy Messenger around what it does best: helping people communicate simply and securely.
From Self-Notes to Bluvy Note
A feature already available in Bluvy Messenger gave us another idea: self-notes.
This conversation with yourself can be used to quickly save information, ideas, or content that you want to find again later.
It benefits from the same end-to-end encryption system as regular conversations and can rely on the user's PDS for storage.
This experience led us to think about Bluvy Note, a future application dedicated to personal notes.
The idea is to take this foundation and develop it into an experience specifically designed for note-taking, while keeping the same security principles.
The PDS could, in particular, make it possible to keep personal data within the user's own ecosystem rather than relying entirely on proprietary storage controlled by the service.
Bluvy Tube, a Different Direction
Bluvy Tube is a very different project.
It is not an extension of Bluvy Messenger, but a separate application entirely focused on video on the AT Protocol.
The goal is to start preparing the ground for longer-form video content on the protocol.
To achieve this, Bluvy Tube could explore Jetstream 2 to index video content published across the network.
The idea is not to index everything indiscriminately.
We want to be able to apply different filters to select content that matches the platform's goals, particularly public videos suitable for a general audience.
The result could take the form of a simple web platform: a mini YouTube for videos published on the AT Protocol.
Users could discover content, search, browse different categories, and watch videos through an interface designed specifically for this purpose.
The Experience Behind Libreplay TV
Bluvy Tube can also build on several years of experience gained through Libreplay TV (@libreplay.fr), our legal streaming platform dedicated to films and series.
Content indexing, metadata management, search, and video discovery are all challenges we have already had the opportunity to explore through Libreplay.
Bluvy Tube would allow us to apply this expertise to a completely different environment: an open video network built around the AT Protocol.
Different Projects, One Philosophy
Bluvy Messenger, Bluvy Note, and Bluvy Tube are not intended to do the same thing.
Messenger is focused on private communication.
Note will focus on personal data and note-taking.
Tube will explore the discovery of public video content from the AT Protocol.
What brings them together is the desire to build with open technologies and rethink the relationship between users and their data.
The AT Protocol naturally plays an important role in this vision.
It makes it possible to think about an identity that is not entirely locked into a single application, while PDS instances can offer new possibilities for storing personal data.
For Bluvy Messenger, MLS provides a strong foundation for end-to-end encryption.
Each project can therefore use these technologies according to its own needs, without trying to apply exactly the same architecture everywhere.
Building Progressively
Not everything has been defined yet, and that is intentional.
Bluvy Messenger remains the main project today. Media sharing and audio calls are the next major steps.
Bluvy Note will then explore a new use case around personal data and encrypted notes.
Bluvy Tube will follow a different path, with the ambition of building a video experience around AT Protocol content and the possibilities offered by Jetstream 2.
Some of these projects are still at an early stage and will also depend on how the AT Protocol ecosystem itself evolves.
But the direction is clear.
We want to build Bluvy progressively, one project at a time, focusing on useful applications rather than artificially filling an ecosystem with features.
Bluvy Messenger is the beginning of this journey.
The rest will take shape over time.
